Private Prison Divestment Campaign

invest in humanity

Petition

Despite immigration reform efforts, private prison industry lobbyists have support in Congress for over $2 billion a year for massive incarceration of immigrants in private prisons. Due largely to the power of those lobbyists, immigrants arrested by the Border Patrol now serve an average pre-deportation sentence of 360 days in a private prison for behaviors that were not considered crimes ten years ago.
Pre-deportation detention senselessly costs taxpayers money and detainees their human rights for the sole benefit of the growing private prison industry.  Please take a moment to let Congress know you want your government to refuse to finance private prisons with immigrant incarcerations.
We call on our Senators and Representatives to deny funding to the private prison industry.
Sign the petition to deny funding for private prisons!
