Seneca County Will Not Stop Fracking Waste Disposal

Seneca County will not stop fracking waste from being dumped at the Seneca Meadows Landfill in Seneca Falls.
This week the Seneca County Board of Supervisors voted down a resolution that would have asked the landfill operators not to accept the out-of-state waste.
Last year 5,473 tons of the hydrofracking waste from Pennsylvania was dumped at the landfill.

Seneca Meadows officials say the rocks and mud- called drill cuttings-are not considered hazardous.  The supervisors in favor of banning the drill cuttings say the material contains salt, saline, chemicals and radioactive materials.
Seneca Meadows has not accepted any hydrofracking waste so far this year.
The supervisor's weighted vote was 375 to 329 not to draft a letter to Seneca Meadows objecting to the fracking waste disposal.
Voting in favor of drafting the letter were Stephen Churchill D-Seneca Falls; Cindy Lorenzetti D-Fayette; Gary Westfall D-Waterloo, and Keith Kubasik R-Waterloo.
Voting against the motion to send the letter requesting the landfill stop accepting the waste were Bob Haysseen R- Varick; Michael Reynolds R-Covert; Ronald Serven D-Junius; Lee Davidson R-Lodi; Walt Prouty R- Ovid; Donald Earle R- Seneca Falls; Chuck Lafler R-Seneca Falls; and Patricia Amidon R-Tyre.
