Join Us October 8 in Washington, DC!

More Money in Politics???
Next Tuesday, October 8, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in McCutcheon v. FEC  -- a “money in politics” case many are calling “the next CitizensUnited!”
We’re using this “teachable moment” to make a big splash in our ongoing campaign to get big money out of elections and restore Government By the People.
Can you join us in Washington, DC on Tuesday, October 8 for a rally at the Supreme Court, followed by lobbying visits to members of Congress?
You can RSVP for the event on Facebook here.  If you have any questions about the event, please email us at amendment@pfaw.org using the subject line “Oct 8 Supreme Court Rally.”
We’ll also hold a lobby day training the day before, on Monday October 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
RSVP for the lobby training, by emailing us at amendment@pfaw.org using the subject line “Oct 7 Lobby Training.”
In McCutcheon, the conservative 5-4 majority of the Court could hand over even more power to wealthy special interests by lifting overall contribution limits!
The last thing we need in this country is even more BIG MONEY in our elections.  Time after time, corporate lobbyists armed with Super PACs or dark money “social welfare organizations,” like Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS, are able to kill progressive legislation while pushing their right-wing agenda.  This pay-to-play system has to go.
That’s why PFAW and allies are organizing to send the message loud and clear to members of Congress that they must amend the Constitution to undo the harm of Supreme Court decisions like Citizens UnitedWe can’t sit idly by as five pro-corporate ideologues on the Roberts Court continue to dismantle the important safeguards that make our democracy, well, democratic.
Please join us next week!
The Rally:
On Tuesday, October 8 at 9:30 AM, while the justices hear the oral arguments in McCutcheon, we’ll be on the steps of the Court standing up for democracy and calling for reform.  Please join us at the rally at the Supreme Court, which will feature keynote speakers:
  • Reverend William Barber, leader of North Carolina’s “Moral Mondays,” head of the NC NAACP and a member of PFAW’s African American Ministers In Action
  • Congressman John Sarbanes, primary sponsor of a strong public financing bill
  • Greenpeace USA Executive Director Phil Radford
  • Communications Workers of America President Larry Cohen
  • And more!
Again, please RSVP for the event on Facebook here.  And if you have any questions about the event, please email us at amendment@pfaw.org using the subject line “Oct 8 Supreme Court Rally.”
Lobbying Efforts:
The fact that the Supreme Court is hearing McCutcheon v. FEC is a problem, but it’s also an opportunity to fix our broken system.  Fortunately, we have solutions in hand.
On Monday October 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., we’ll hold a lobby training at the United Church of Christ featuring Congressman John Sarbanes to learn about those solutions.  The training will prepare you for a day of lobbying (after the morning protest) on October 8, where we’ll be visiting the offices of key lawmakers and encouraging them to take up the cause of election reform.
RSVP for the lobby training, by emailing us at amendment@pfaw.org using the subject line “Oct 7 Lobby Training.”
We can’t stand by silently while our democracy is taken from us by the powerful few.  Now is the time to demand real reform!
Thank you for all you do,
Sincerely,
