Black Immigration Network

As you probably know, 2 weeks ago Eight Senators introduced an immigration reform bill entitled, S. 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act. The bill includes some minor improvements to the U.S. immigration system, however it still undermines families, criminalizes immigrants, and excludes countless immigrants from legal future migration.  In the coming weeks the Senate Judiciary Committee will be making changes to the proposed bill, and it is important that our communities speak up to ensure our needs and concerns are addressed in the bill.

There are 2 things that you can do to ensure that immigration reform is fair and just:

1) Sign on to the our 10 Demands letterWe are inviting organizations and individuals nationwide who believe that immigration reform should reflect
our collective values and needs to join us in uplifting the standard of human rights.  We don't have to settle for the bill as is, and it's time we push for this immigration reform bill to be inclusive and address critical concerns of communities that will be directly impacted. If you agree with us, will you please sign on to our letter?
Please sign on by May 10th  so that we can deliver the letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 13th, while they're still in the "proposal mark up" period.

2) Join us for our National Day of Demands on Monday May 13th - we'll be making phone calls, sending emails and visiting senate offices across the country. Next week we'll send you a toolkit that includes talking points, a press release template, phone script, as well as information on how to reach members of congress. Also, BIN members and allies nationwide will coordinating visits to Senate offices. If you are interested in this and would like to participate in your city please send an email toinfo@blackimmigration.net

The time is now to push for a bill that includes our needs. If you agree with these 10 demands, then stand in solidarity with us.  Sign on and let's raise our voices together!
