Ask Congressman Doggett to Help Close Polk Detention Center!

On Wednesday, September 4th,Texans United for Families and Grassroots Leadership are asking for your help in making 200 phone calls to Congressman Lloyd Doggett's office, asking for his help to close the Polk detention center.  Congressman Doggett has consistently supported the immigrant community, and we are therefore asking him to send a letter to the Department of Homeland Security calling for an end to the Polk contract.
Please call Congressman Doggett at either his Austin office (Phone: 512-916-5921) or his San Antonio office (Phone: 210-704-1080and be sure to fill out the form below!
Hello. My name is ____________________ and I am calling Congressman Doggett to thank him for being such a strong advocate for Immigrant Rights.
The Congressman is aware of the many Human Rights violations that occur daily at the Polk County Immigration Detention facility in Livingston, Texas.
Polk has a record of failing to provide adequate medical care, with numerous cases of misdiagnosed illnesses. Men at the facility live in cramped quarters and have no meaningful access to programming leading many to suffer psychological deterioration and depression. The facility is located in an isolated, rural area cutting off detained people from family and loved ones, and legal and social services.
This facility is run by Community Education Centers, a for-profit private prison corporation with a record of abuse and negligence documented in many of its facilities.
We respectfully ask that Congressman Doggett send a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, requesting that it sever its contract with CEC to operate the Polk facility. We count on Congressman Doggett's strong record of protecting Human Rights to provide leadership on this matter.
Thank you.
